What Can I do to be a Visionary Leader?
Today
I did what I usually do these days for clarification on something. I
googled, "What can I do to be a visionary Leader?" Of course,
the top two sites were by some of my classmates :), but I was looking for more
of a generic, but contemporary dialogue of the term. First, I found this quote:
Visionary Leadership increases
efficiency by moving decision-making responsibility to the frontline.
Efficiency is achieved with limited supervision. To make frontline
responsibility effective, leadership must give workers opportunity to develop
decision-making skills and learn to trust them.

And then I found a fantastic table at this site: http://www.primarygoals.org/books/visionary-leadership/
So, what can I do? I can inspire my cohorts by continuing to use and be innovated with technology with an attitude of sharing and encouragement. I can continue doing "my own thing" while also knowing "how" and "when" to redirect them to their own technology goals. I can redirect and maintain trust by asking them the right "what" and "why" questions.
Visionary leadership is being able to influence change in a culture where all members participate and have ownership. It is being available and valuable to the long range perspective of the goal(s).

New Tasks
1) What makes a good blog?
A good blog is not too busy or distracting. It should address a targeted audience and post musings or information that is meaningful to that audience. I think a good blog post would invite commentary and thought related to the content of the blog. A good title for the blog and description of the post title is good. Blog language should be clear and a post not be too lengthy.
2) How could a blog enhance your existing school web presence?
A blog could enhance my school's web presence by:
Oh, yes! I just Googled "blogs and self publishing". Pages of ways to self publish using blogs along with links to many articles are out there. It has changed the publishing world as we know it! There are teachers out there making money from their blogs, because these blogs are linked to online stores where other teachers can purchase ideas and created works from other teachers, such as The Clutter Free Classroom. This and many other blogs are linked to TeachersPayTeachers.http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/

A blog could enhance my school's web presence by:
- It would allow parents and peers to go to a place where they can learn more about me as a teacher.
- It would be a great place to get information about what is happening in the classroom and the school.
- Other teachers could visit my blog for ideas just as I visit other teachers blogs for ideas.
- It would provide a space where I could go back and reflect on events in the classroom and adjust for future events.

TLA TAL – Getting Started
Today is Mother's Day May 12, 2013. A few hours ago my family and I came home from a cold, campy, but cozy crew weekend in Leelenau. My plan this evening was to do my TLA course work. So, as I sit here with the aroma of campfire still in my hair (it just won't wash out!) I am meditating on my hopes and dreams for this section of the course. I guess what I'm really geeked about is taking all that I've learned so far to a higher level. I'm fairly comfortable with technology, but what I'm ready to experience is the integration of all my studies, Technology, Common Core, Leadership, Collaboration, Mentoring and Coaching.
